Seagull

This Seagull took a while to model and rig, but I did get a lot better at weight painting tricky things like the shoes. Still pretty happy with how these bend.

Skateboarding Frog
This is the first scene I put together to try and learn several things at once. If you unmute this video you can hear that I actually went and recorded skateboard sound effects from Skater XL so that it would actually sound kind of correct 😄
I had never actually modeled & tried to rig an entire character like this. I tried to keep the model as low poly as possible because I knew that in the past I ran into a lot of issues with weight painting. This was the first time I got to do this with a freshly rigged character:

The real win here was figuring out how to correctly rig/weight paint these shoes. Also using constraints to get these skateboard trucks to behave the right way.

The first thing I actually animated with this character was just a little loop of him carving. This is still my favorite thing to come out of this project.
Carroll Goalie School
I created the CGS puck logo many years ago, but never really animated it until now. This is for use at the end of social media video uploads.
Suzuki Carry
This small truck is loosely based on the Suzuki Carry. I was walking around my neighborhood this summer and saw this adorable little truck, so I decided to model and animate one of my own.
My favorite weird little details on this truck is that the suspension arms bend correctly – and I figured out a way to get the wheel to deform a little bit when it’s touching the ground:

2D Animation
Traditional 2D animation has always been fascinating to me, and so I spent a couple of months digging into learning how it’s done. A couple of these were done with Rough Animator on iPad, Adobe Animate & Looom.
Camp Scene
In late 2018, I was asked to model and animate a short scene to be projection mapped onto a massive grain silo in Interbay, Seattle. This was the first big project I ever tackled with Cinema 4D and had a blast figuring out the best way to model and animate something like this.
Hang in there
In early 2018 I was getting into streaming games on Twitch, and needed a few title cards for opening/closing my streams. This was the “hey I’m getting something to drink and the stream will be starting soon” screen.
Skateboard
Another low poly style exploration, this time with a skateboard deck. Figuring out how to model skateboard trucks was surprisingly fun.
Headphones
For many years I loved using the Sony MDR-7506 headphones. This is a low-poly homage to these great headphones.
Bike
The first of a few explorations into modeling stylized low-poly objects. I’ve always loved the look of a classic BMX bike, and tried to recreate it here.
