City Blocks

That third one is my favorite of the bunch. Check this out: Marty Crownover modeled & animated rubik’s traffic and it turned out amazing.
Wacky Bus
Back in June I started working with Tony & Kyle of Mostly Bits on a game for the Playdate. They had the idea to make a little game where you drive a bus that changes shape.

The thing I wanted to figure out was how to actually model and animate all of this in Blender, and then export a bunch of sprites to use on the Playdate. I started by modeling everything and then making materials for the black & white. It also helped that I had already made a lot other vehicles and props to drop in there.

This has worked surprisingly well, and it’s been really fun to see the animated pieces working on a Playdate.

My favorite thing so far has been this character I drew for the “administrator” of the Wacky Transit Authority. He hates Wacky Bus so much.

We’re trying to put together a playable demo right now, so hopefully I’ll have something to share very soon here 🚌💨
100 Heads

For about 3 years I had been drawing little heads on doodle.zone. Eventually I decided that when I hit 100 heads, I was going to get a print made of all of them in a grid. Little did I know that this would turn into a months long odyssey to get a print made the way that I wanted it.
Hundreds of dollars wasted on some prints from bad vendors, weeks of trying to screen print this myself – and I still couldn’t get it right. For whatever reason, printing something at 18×18 on nice paper is a weirdly difficult thing to do. The print that I ended up making a frame for in these pictures is the best one I could muster by myself. There’s still some (minor) problems with it.
Update: Last week I decided to bite the bullet and just order a “fancy” giclée print from theprintspace. It was $60 for one print and shipped from the UK, but it’s perfect. Now I can stop thinking about it 😮💨

Pennant

I was asked to make an illustration for the launch of Pennant, and put this together in an afternoon. That amp in the background is based on one of the first things I bought after getting my first job bagging groceries, a Crate half stack that sounded terrible.

Bust Out

When Bust Out launched a blog, I illustrated something for some of the posts. It’s been an interesting challenge to figure out a unified style that works in both 2D and 3D.

Pet Portrait Emoji

At the beginning of 2020 when everyone was settling into the long quarantine, I set out to illustrate a group of friends’ pets for use as emoji in Slack.
2D Animation
Traditional 2D animation has always been fascinating to me, and so I spent a couple of months digging into learning how it’s done. A couple of these were done with Rough Animator on iPad, Adobe Animate & Looom.
Small Places
A series of small places. The kebab stand features my friend Ben and a robotic arm grilling kebabs.
